在多年的初中阶段英语教学生涯中,笔者对于这样一种常见的教学现象往往感到迷惑不解。有些学生往往英语素养较高,考试成绩遥遥领先,可是在课堂表达与小组交流当中却讷于表现,即使勉强张口,也前言不搭后语,令人大失所望。经过一点时间的调研与思考,笔者以为,出现这种状况主要是因为长期以来,人们在应试教育思想的桎梏与影响下形成的误区。新课改精神更加注重学生的整体素养,更加注重学生的创新能力与交际能力,鉴于此,我们应当采取种种高效策略,强化初中生的口语训练,将素质教育推向深入。
一、抓好学生的口语入门关
笔者在调查成绩优异却不能放开在课堂上进行表达的学生时,他们都谈到了一个问题:在初一入学之际,很多教师没能对他们的音标发音进行正确指导,致使他们的口语发音存在很大问题,现在他们一听到别人标准、流利的口语表达就欣羡不已,自卑不已,更别提在课堂上进行口语展示了。鉴于此,笔者主张:在初一初学英语音标之际,我们教师不但要教给学生正确的发音方法,还要对发音部位的生理结构、气流走向、唇舌配合等方面的知识加以讲解,有了这些基本的发音理论做基础,学生一定会强加练习,练就一口标准的口语发音,为以后流畅的口语表达奠定基础。在掌握了准确而科学的英语音标发音基础之上,我们还要在单词发音、连词成句方面加大指导力度,对于学生英语语感,还有像口语表达过程中的连读、爆破等语音常识加以讲解和纠正,给学生逐步建立强大的口语表达的自信。最后,笔者还主张在口语表达课堂评价方面要多下功夫,毕竟,兴趣是最好的老师。如果我们能够透过课堂评价激发他们的自信,远比教师苦口婆心地,一遍一遍地教要有效得多。
二、丰富训练形式,培养交流习惯
1.进行多种训练。 为了避免单一的训练方式所带给学生的枯燥与厌烦,我们要在训练形式的多样化上下下功夫。除去课堂展示之外,我们可以进行师生合作,生生合作;在分角色朗读、交流的情况下,我们还要创设种种真实情景,甚至可以开展排演课本剧活动。在教材文本内容较为单薄,尤其是句型练习的时候,我们甚至可以对于文本内容进行适当的拓展与延伸。如:“Sit down,please”、“Good morning,Han meimei”、“How are you?”这样的对话活动,我们不仅仅要给学生讲清楚里面的语法知识、单词结构,更要以多种形式进行强化训练,包括分角色朗读、表演,甚至可以拓展情节,强化创新性情境训练。
2.做重复交流活动。 譬如在进行go shopping口语交际训练的时候,我们往往在课堂上让一对,或者一组学生练习、展示完毕就结束了口语训练活动。笔者以为,仅仅这样还远远不够,对于其中的诸如“Can I help you?”“How much is ...”句型应当反复练习,多人员练习,才能达到较好的强化效果。
三、定期开展口语活动课
对于整个初中阶段口语训练活动来讲,仅仅利用课堂教学的间隙进行训练是远远不够的,我们需要定期开展固定主题的口语活动课,并争取在活动形式上有所突破。譬如,开展辩论会就是一项非常有趣而且有效的活动。有一次,笔者结合当前学生的关心焦点,初中生到底该不该玩电脑展开辩论:Is playing computers good or bad for middle school students? 参赛的选手由学生选拔、推荐产生,给他们一周,或者两周的准备时间,然后还可以联系兄弟班级一起参加,或者邀请他们前来观看。这样,尽管学生在表达方面,或者专业的辩论层面还存在着一定的不足,但总体来讲,训练学生的口语表达能力与胆量的目的还是达到了。另外,在初中阶段,英语教材当中有很多关于古今中外有趣的故事的文章,我们不仅要强化朗读背诵,还可以以“英语故事”为主题进行英文故事的表演活动,也要给出他们一定的准备时间,在表演与表达方面都给以一定的指导,将表演效果与口语训练效果结合起来,做到最好。
四、创设语言学习环境
1.Daily Talk。 笔者在多年的初中英语教学活动中,都在坚持着 Daily Talk这项口语活动,学生在课前几分钟,由天气、兴趣、饮食、衣着,谈到学习、朋友、生活感悟、阅读书籍等等,娓娓道来中,学生的口语训练目的达到了落实,也在班级中营造了一种口语交际的良好氛围。
2.课外活动。 积极鼓励学生参加学校的“英语周”或“英语沙龙”等活动,使学生有更多的机会置身于英语的氛围中。我们可以联系团委、学生会等校方组织,结合教师节、元旦、母亲节等节日进行主题活动,在活动中创设良好的交流交际氛围。
3.校园广播。 充分利用校园广播站,播放一些适合本校学生的英语节目,也可选用本校学生好的英语作文作为范文,定期让学生欣赏,学唱英语歌曲,把学生带进一个语言美与音乐美交相辉映的美妙境界。 在那里,学生们得到了美的享受,语言氛围的熏陶,既锻炼了学生的听力,也对学生的口语起潜移默化的训练作用。
